Now that the notification is issued, the government can grant citizenship to non-Muslim migrants. Migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who came before 2015 can get citizenship. The announcement comes weeks after Amit Shah declared that the law would be implemented. Hindus, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, and refugees are eligible to apply for citizenship. The law could not come into effect because the rules had not been notified until now. The Modi government will now start granting Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants.
