Kharge clarifies controversial remarks on Gujaratis, BJP seeks apology

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has clarified controversial remarks that drew sharp criticism from the BJP. Speaking at a rally in Kerala, Kharge was accused of calling Gujaratis “illiterate,” prompting the BJP to demand an apology.Kharge said his comments were misrepresented and expressed regret for the misunderstanding, emphasizing respect for the people of Gujarat. His earlier remarks comparing the RSS and BJP to a poisonous snake have also attracted criticism, highlighting rising political tensions ahead of the 2026 state elections.
