Uttarakhand: Elephant electrocuted, died in Pantnagar
An elephant was electrocuted by a high power electric line in the central forest of Terai division in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. The Elephant got electrocuted on his back, died on the spot and fell into a pond. This is the sixth death of an elephant in the past fifteen months in the forest range. Residents spotted the dead body of the Elephant and informed the forest officials. Forest Ranger Harish Ram Arya said that it appears that the electric line was active and running low which resulted in the Elephant touching it accidently. Residents said that they heard the wails of the Elephant followed by a blackout on the region. People also said that there are no protective measure taken by the forest department to ensure the safety of the animals.
