Former Foreign Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla warned that India will face 50% customs duties on exports to the US starting midnight. Speaking in Reston, Virginia, he said India is working to soften the blow by exploring alternative markets through existing and upcoming Free Trade Agreements with Australia, the UAE, the UK, and the European Union. Shringla underlined that India’s partnership with the US is its most comprehensive, based on shared values and principles, which will help both nations navigate challenges. He welcomed the appointment of Sergio Gor as the next US Ambassador to India, calling it a positive step for bilateral ties.
