Trinamool Congress functionary Swarup Biswas was arrested by New Alipore Police on charges including attempt to murder, extortion, sexual harassment, criminal intimidation and conspiracy. The arrest follows a complaint by a woman linked to the Tollygunge film industry. Swarup is also under scrutiny in the controversial Lionel Messi event case, where organisers accused him and former minister Aroop Biswas of extortion, intimidation and ticket black-marketing. Investigations in both matters are continuing.
