'I Have Always Tried To...': LS Speaker Om Birla's First Remarks After No-Confidence Motion Fails

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the House following the rejection of the no-confidence motion against him, dismissing opposition claims of bias. He reiterated that rules are applicable to all members, including the Prime Minister, and clarified there is no system to mute or control the Speaker’s microphone. Birla noted that this marks the third instance in India’s parliamentary history where a no-confidence motion against the Speaker was debated, with discussions spanning over 12 hours across two days. He emphasized that the Lok Sabha represents the mandate of 1.4 billion citizens and that every member participates to voice the concerns of their constituents. Birla stated he has consistently ensured impartiality, order, and adherence to parliamentary rules, encouraging participation and maintaining the dignity, traditions, and efficiency of the House while fulfilling his responsibilities.
