Amid Trump Tariffs, PM Modi Urges Swadeshi: ‘Money Can Be Someone Else's, But Sweat Must Be Ours’

Ahead of the US raising import tariffs on India to 50 percent, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasizes the importance of swadeshi and Make in India. At the launch of Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, eVITARA, in Gujarat, Modi said swadeshi means the effort and production must come from Indians, no matter where the investment originates. He stated, “The money may be someone else’s, but the sweat is ours.” Modi also outlined his vision for 2047, aiming to build a Bharat that future generations will be proud of. Calling Maruti Suzuki a swadeshi company, he added that electric vehicles made in India will soon be driven worldwide, signaling a strong push for domestic manufacturing and innovation in the EV sector.
