Maharashtra quota row: SC quashes 27% reservation for zilla parishad elections, directs fresh polls

The Supreme Court has quashed Section 12(2)(c)of Maharashtra Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis Act which allowed 27% reservation for persons belonging to the category of Backward Class in the zilla parishad polls. The SC has thus set aside election of candidates under the reservation and directed fresh polls for those seats in two weeks.
