The clothes swap concept, which is new to Kochi, seems to be welcomed by people who are keen to adopt the concept of sustainable fashion outright. At a recent fashion show at a premier hotel in Kochi, about 40 members of an NGO, which held the show turned up in ‘second-hand’ clothes.
“Our idea was to make people aware about recycling, water conservation and tree planting,” says Dr Bindu Sathyajith, entrepreneur and founder of the NGO. The clothes at the designer show were made from old saris, used clothes and plastic were converted into bags and old saris were presented at the show so that they can be swapped and worn again.
