Exclusive - Kalyana Vaibhogam actor VJ Sunny remembers Sushant Singh Rajput on his birth anniversary: His death taught me to never give up

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput would have turned 35 today (January 21) if not for his untimely death on June 14, 2020. It was one of the most sensational deaths of the year. Fans on social media, who have been fighting for justice for him ever since, are trending #SushantDay on Twitter today. Kalyana Vaibhogam actor VJ Sunny, who is one of the million ardent fans of SSR, remembers the latter on this special day. Excerpts...

Indian cinema is missing him

I feel he's still around, the fact that he's gone hasn't sunk in for me yet. Indian cinema is terribly missing a gem of an actor like him.

That's why the connection with him is so strong

His death, investigation and the entire episode feels like a dream to me. His humble beginnings, acting journey and everything made him a household name. So, it was never a star actor passing away to us, it was like a family member's death. That's the reason why the connection with him is so strong and we are still mourning his demise.

I was glad to find #SushantDay trending

In today's world, everything is so short-lived including public attention. It is easy to forget and move on to something more sensational. But hats off to Sushant's supporters across the globe for keeping up the fight and fire alive throughout the year. My day started with remembering Sushant and I was glad to find #SushantDay trending on Twitter. Sushant lives on.

He didn't get the stardom he deserves

I feel his journey from level zero to where he was when he left us is very rare and inspirational. He accepted whatever came his way and proved that even a small town guy can shine in the showbiz world without any strong backing. Many including me believe he didn't get the stardom and respect he deserves as an actor. I'm not sure what went wrong where.

I can't gauge his pressure and judge his pain now

I don't think I can gauge the pressure he must have gone through during his last days and judge his pain behind plain sight. I don't think he will choose to give up so easily but only he knows what he went through. He's a very sensitive soul and you can't expect someone to be tough at all the time.

I would SHIFT+DEL Rhea

I don't want to talk about Rhea Chakraborty. She's someone whom I would SHIFT+DEL in life if I had a chance. Zillion questions like why she was never vocal about his mental health issues when he was alive and what she did to him are still unanswered.

I wish someone more powerful handled SSR's case

We are doing our bit to keep up the fight and noise through the media that endorses our voice. But as a fan I only wish someone more powerful, transparent and someone having their heart in the right place to deal with Sushant's case. Otherwise, it will be any other death and case.

His death taught me to never give up

Sushant is an inspiration to many like me who have come to the industry with big fat dreams. There will be both friends and enemies in the industry and I've had my share of struggles and fights in this journey. But Sushant's death has taught me not to give up no matter what. His fight with his inner demons and the forces around him is inspirational. I'll remember him wherever I'm and will keep fighting to remind him and his legacy to everyone.
