Rahul Gupta: OTT gives every character the space to evolve and perform
Actor Rahul Gupta, known for his work in shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, Beyhadh, Ishqbaaaz, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Baavle Utaavle, and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, is now exploring new creative ground with his latest film Candy And The Pizza Girl, where he steps into the shoes of a conman. Calling it a defining experience, Rahul says, “This film is special for me because I got to play something I had never imagined before. As an actor, I always aim for performance-oriented roles, and this gave me that opportunity.”
Drawing inspiration from Vijay Sethupathi, Rahul shares how the role pushed him beyond his comfort zone. “My motivation came from Vijay Sethupathi sir’s performance in Super Deluxe. He played a transgender character so convincingly—it inspired me to take on something challenging and use it as a chance to rise and shine.”
Rahul emphasises that his choices as an actor are driven by variety and depth. “I’ve always aimed to be part of interesting stories and play characters that are poles apart from each other,” he adds.
Having worked across television, films like Ginny Weds Sunny and Janhit Mein Jaari, and TVCs, Rahul is now particularly drawn to the OTT space. “I’m open to every medium, but OTT gives a more detailed opportunity for characters to evolve and perform. Other mediums can be tight due to editing, but OTT allows you to explore the character fully. It’s a great opportunity and a pleasure for me as an actor to be part of such projects,” he concludes.
