Jasmin Bhasin on Naagin 4: Audience has mostly seen me doing typical daily soaps; this is challenging

Jasmin Bhasin is currently trending on social media for her role in Naagin 4. There was immense anticipation amongst the viewers to see the new face as Naagin. The actress feels very grateful for being a part of this franchise, and feels that she will have to unlearn things to slip into a shape-shifting serpent. After entertaining in shows like, Dil Hi Toh Hai, Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji and reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 9, she is delving into a new genre of fantasy. Jasmin has expressed whether does she have butterflies in her stomach or how is she feeling right now. By: Neha Chaudhary (Photo: Instagram)

Out of comfort zone

I am always looking for projects that make me step out of my comfort zone and do something different. This is why I did Khatron Ke Khiladi 9. (Photo: Instagram)

Hunger to learn more

Talking about doing a few shows in the past and tapping the supernatural genre now, Jasmin said, "The audience has mostly seen me doing typical daily soaps so far, be it Taashan-e-Ishq, Dil Se Dil Tak or Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji. Playing naagin is not only exciting but also challenging for me. One is never done growing as an artiste. So, it's important to find roles that challenge me and make me learn new things." Taking cue from Mouni Roy or Ada Khan?

Mouni Roy and Ada Khan have earlier played the role of naagin in this series. Jasmin revealed that she is often asked if she is observing their past work to get the finesse in her character. As a reply to them, she affirmed, "I am being asked if I have done any homework or observed Mouni Roy or Adaa Khan who have played naagin before. Since I have mostly done typical daily soaps, I will have to unlearn everything that I have learned so far and start afresh. This is a different role and I want to play the character in my own style." (Photo: Instagram)

Barter system with the audience

Jasmin says that to do justice to any role, the actor has to first believe in the character and then expect the audience to do the same. "This has always been my mantra. When I was doing Dil Se Dil Tak and the way I played my character, Teni – a village girl from Gujarat – made a lot of people believe that I am actually Gujarati. I feel it's very important for an actor to believe in the character that he/she is playing and do full justice to it in order to convince others that you are the character you are portraying,” she said. Demand for supernatural shows at peak

There's no doubt in the fact that the demand for fantasy thrillers have grown tremendously. With the number of supernatural shows being produced, one cannot deny this aspect. Jasmin Bhasin is also of the same opinion and believes that while a certain section of the audience that doesn't like such kind of content, there are some who adore it. "At the end of the day, television is an entertainment platform and we are here to entertain the masses. There is a chunk of audience that doesn't like such content, but there's also a sizeable chunk that does. There's demand for the naagin-daayan shows in India and that's why they are being made," asserts the Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji actress. Photo: (Instagram)

Favourite fantasy show

Now that Jasmin Bhasin is doing a supernatural show, does she have a favourite show in the fantasy genre? She grinned, "My all-time favourite is Shaktimaan and a supernatural show that I really like has to be Naagin. I remember when I was shooting for my debut show Tashan-e-Ishq, the first season of Naagin had just started airing and I used to be so fascinated by the characters. It feels good to be a part of such a prominent franchise on TV." (Photo: Instagram)
