From trying out mom-to-be Alia Bhatt’s viral beetroot salad recipe to having butter coffee; Debina Bonnerjee shares her pregnancy diet

Debina Bonnerjee, who is expecting her second baby, shared her pregnancy diet in her recent vlog. The actress spoke about what she eats in a day, the fruits she is allowed to have and she also tried Bollywood actress and mom-to-be Alia Bhatt’s viral beetroot salad recipe. Take a look.

2/8

Cutting off outside food

I was eating a lot from outside like burgers, pizzas and all. I had given into my pregnancy cravings and that gave rise to gestational diabetes. But with the help of a proper modified diet, the blood test reports have become normal. I am eating now with the doctor's advice.

3/8

How she begins her day

My morning starts with a cup of butter coffee. No matter what happens, this does not change. Many people say that during pregnancy, one should not drink coffee. You should not have caffeine. I have kept my coffee limited to only one cup and that too in the morning. With this coffee, my metabolism is proper and I don’t have constipation. The butter greases the stomach lining and it is helpful during my pregnancy. Post my coffee, I don’t consume any kind of caffeine.

4/8

Breakfast scenes

My breakfast consists of two whole egg omelets. Along with it, I have 1/4th avocado, 1 piece of gluten free bread (if it is available). If the bread is not available, I have one piece rice cake. It is a simple and great source of protein. Many people question me regarding consumption of eggs during pregnancy. All doctors advice eggs because they have a great intake of protein.

5/8

Mid-morning snack time

One apple is my mid morning snack. I feel hungry mid morning after breakfast, as I have it around 8am. By 10 am I feel hungry again. I eat only apples but I am not supposed to eat any other fruit. Though I crave bananas and oranges, I can’t have them. I can have pomegranates but that doesn’t satisfy my hunger.

6/8

Alia Bhatt’s beetroot salad for lunch

I have been asked not to have rice but I do consume rice in very small quantities at times. I have all kinds of sabzi. For lunch, I take 200 grams of fish. I also have salad alongside. I made beetroot salad following Alia Bhatt’s recipe (the Bollywood actress is also expecting). It turned out to be quite good. Salad is good for your gut health. Rice is a form of carbs, which instantly shoots up the sugar level. The important thing is to have protein.

7/8

Mid-evening and evening snack

Mid-afternoon, I have a fruit again and it’s either apple or pomegranate. At 5pm, I feel very hungry and that was the time when I would have all that fast food. But now, I have ‘sukha bhel’. I dry fry it a bit to make it more crunchy. I add onions, cucumber, black pepper and toss it well.

Her dinner

By 7.30-8pm I consume my dinner. It consists of soup – pumpkin soup, vegetable clear soup or a chicken clear soup. On non-vegetarian days, I have 200 gms of fish. At times, I just have a lot of nicely cooked vegetables and sometimes I have moong dal cheela. So, this is what my pregnancy diet consists of.
