From Sumbul Touqeer Khan not getting work due to dark complexion to Vivian Dsena being mocked for weight gain : TV celebs who were berated for their looks

Television celebrities are often praised for their looks and that is because of the hard work they put in to make themselves appear better in front of their audience. But there's also a section including their own fans sometimes who troll them, call them ugly and fat shame. From Sumbul Touqeer being trolled for having a dark complexion to Vivian Dsena being mocked by fans for weight gain, here are some other celebrities who went through body shaming.

Sumbul Touqeer Khan

On Women's Day, Sumbul Touqeer spoke with ETimes TV about her experience of buying a property at the age of 19 and the problems she faced owing to her dark complexion. When she bagged the role of Imlie, the actor fought her own negative thoughts. She said,“ My initial days were very tough. I started as a child actor and whenever I went for auditions they only wanted fair-skinned actors. It was very demeaning and insulting. It was something which I never appreciated and did not like. For me colour complexion is not important. I had started to believe that if you are dark skinned you can’t be a lead heroine. All the heroines, if you see them, were mostly fair. I don’t have anything against anyone but this is what I started to believe. This stereotype broke when I bagged Imlie. Things didn’t change instantly though. People would call up and say, “Arre kaisi ladki ko cast kar liya, kaali hai”. I felt very bad that day and cried a lot but after the telecast, things started to change.”

Kavita Kaushik

Kavita Kaushik, who made her TV debut with Ekta Kapoor's comedy 'Kutumb' and later appeared in the sitcom 'F.I.R,' replied to a Twitter user who termed her 'ugly with fill confidence. She said that she is 'beautiful' and 'hot' even at the age of 42. Kavita tweeted “42!!! And I'm beautiful AF! Aur Hot itni hu ki uffff!!!(And I am so hot).. Sorry aapko aapke gharvaaale paalne mei daal ke bhool gaye! (Sorry your family members put you in a cradle and forgot) Big hug to you, i'm sure you are nice, just unloved."

Shrenu Parikh

Fans of the Ishqbaaaz actress wrote to her on Instagram to complain about neglecting her looks. They claimed that Shrenu Parikh appeared unattractive in several photos. Some even admitted to feeling guilty as her admirers. Shrenu Parikh did not let this affect her. She rather wrote, “So happy with my life and myself! Lately, I've been receiving msgs from my own fans that I've not looked upon my content and I look UGLY. And you guys are embarassed...I'm in fact embarrassed to make you go through this...guys pls feel free to move on!” Shrenu Parikh stated that she tries to keep her feed as authentic as possible.

Rubina Dilaik

Rubina Dilaik gained weight after getting COVID-19. Some people pretending to be her supporters called her out for it. Rubina hit back at them with a post where she wrote, “I am observing that my weight gain is bothering you! You are relentlessly sending hate mails and messages, you don't see my worth if I don't hire a PR or if I don't tip paps for spotting... You are threatening to leave fandoms coz I am fat now, I don't wear good clothes and I am not working hard to get BIG projects. Well, I am indeed disappointed that, FOR YOU, my physical appearance is far more important than my talent and my commitment to my work... But I have a good news for you all... It's my life and it has phases, and you too are a phase of my life! PS: I respect my fans, so don't call yourself my fan!”

6/9

Mahira Sharma

It all started in the Bigg Boss 13 house when Mahira commented on Shehnaaz’s weight. Fans of the latter did not like it and trolled her for it. Later when Mahira gained weight, all Shehnaaz' fans trolled her and said that karma hit her back. Mahira was quite upset with the trolling she got for her weight gain.

7/9

Paras Chhabra

Paras Chhabra was also body shamed after gaining weight post Bigg Boss. He claimed that he was suffering from health concerns. According to Paras Chhabra, he was working on it and was in a much better space. He told BT, “After a long time, I am feeling healthy mentally. I had this anxiety issue for which I was taking therapy. Plus, I was not gymming all this while because of anxiety issues. I have consulted a good doctor for mental health in my family. I also have a good trainer to train me in the gym. When I consulted a doctor for my anxiety, he counseled me that whatever I was facing was normal and with me, it was mostly because of my profession. We, actors, don’t have a fixed routine and often, there can be gaps between two projects. In my case, the gap was a little longer. Plus, I am staying in Chandigarh and rarely go out, so according to the doctor it was all adding up to the anxiety issues.”

8/9

Vivian Dsena

Vivian Dsena gained a significant amount of weight in 2019. While others mocked him for the same, the actor said that his talent has got nothing to do with his weight. He added that if the producer or the channel don't have a problem with the way he looks, then even others shouldn't bother. He added, “My fans shower a lot of love and wishes all the time. I get lots of messages on social media from Arab countries. With all this love, trolling comes too. It has become a norm and as a public figure, you should understand that it is a part of an actors’ life. People shouldn’t crib or complain.”

9/9

Himanshi Khurana

Himanshi Khurana stated that she was constantly mocked for her fluctuating weight due to PCOS. She also had high blood pressure. According to Himanshi, many women have PCOS, yet people don't seem to comprehend the problem.
