Exclusive: Srishti Jain recalls her initial days into TV with Suhani Si Ladki, says "I heard DOP saying 'kisko uthake le aye' and I felt bad"

Srishti Jain has been winning hearts as Monisha in Kumkum Bhagya. The actress has been a household name ever since her first TV show. Srishti started her journey into showbiz with Suhaani Si Ladki and since then there has been no looking back for her. In an exclusive chat with ETimes TV, the actress got candid about her journey, gave a sneak peek into her personal life, facing trolls and more. Take a look at what Srishti had to share:

Srishti: I went through multiple ligament tears

I think when I was doing Durga, I was impressionable at that age. The character was so strong and beautiful that I took away a lot of its strength. The mindset that you don't need to give up. You shouldn't give up on adversities. I learnt a lot while I was playing Durga. Also the working environment was really tough as it was a physically taxing show. I went through multiple ligament tears. I was in a cast for such a long time. I realised my strength as Srishti. I didn't even know that I could push those boundaries and I did on that show. I realised that I am more resilient and stronger than I made myself to believe and from then on every show and everything in my personal life the attitude changed like 'oh I can go beyond this or it doesn't matter I will figure it out.' I kept pushing my boundaries, Durga really did stay with me.

Srishti on finding balance between being private and social media savvy

A lot of my friends were very surprised when they got to know that I am getting into acting. I told nobody, they just saw the telecast when I started with Suhani. I am genuinely very guarded and I am learning to create that balance now. As often we are told that fans are curious to know what we are doing and we need to be social media savvy, which I am not.

Srishti on facing criticism

Especially on the sets of Suhani because I was a kid and I knew nothing. The show was going on for three years, I didn't even know how to get on the mark. I heard the DOP saying 'Kisko uthake le aaye' and I felt really bad. I did cry that day. I had done theatre but it is really different, you rehearse everything to the T and then perform. This was an ongoing set up and TV is very quick. You don't have time, but I am very grateful to them for taking me under their wing and teaching me.

Here's how Srishti agreed to do Ali Baba- Ek Andaaz Andekha

Abhishek is a friend and when he found out that they were speaking to me, he said 'just shut up and say yes'. We have always contemplated how cool it would be to work with each other because we both admire each other's work. And then I ended up becoming friends with Sumedh. He is such a wonderful actor, he is something else altogether. We have had loads of fun behind the scenes.

6/8

I wanted to be a warrior princess

Doing a fantasy show I realised that I would love to explore a little bit more in that genre. I feel like I manifested doing that role, because whenever I was asked I have said that I would love to do a warrior princess. And I got to play, even if it was for a short span of time. I would love to do it in depth in future hopefully.

7/8

Srishti would love to do action shows

I love action films, growing up I didn't want to be the heroine, didn't want my hair flying and all. I wanted to have shots like Hrithik sir had in his movies. I am hoping and manifesting an action show on the web for myself. I think I would look kickass doing that show.

8/8

On facing fat shame and how she looked

A lot, initially when I joined the industry I did face issues health wise. But the industry is so much about the package, people don't tend to see the person behind it. Let's face it, I was not in the best shape, I was not according to the standards of what people would want to see. I have been fat shamed before, I have been called things because of the way my skin looked, the way I looked. Be it people on set, the audience watching me. That has happened and I won't lie. I was very young when I started so initially it did affect me, but with time I have built a thick skin. As far as I am a good performer, nothing beats that.
