UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps commented that, "Today marks the first step in our cautious return to international travel, with measures designed above all else to protect public health and ensure we don’t throw away the hard-fought gains we’ve all strived to earn this year."
The UK has come up with a Green List, mentioning the countries that it is now open to. These 12 destinations are also given relief in terms of quarantine requirements. For now, European countries are off the list. An advisory by the concerned authorities have urged people to not engage in non-essential travel to any country that is still on the Red List. Brits travelling to nations on the Green List will need to take COVID-19 tests, a test before arrival into the UK and another within two days of coming back to the country.
It is the first time that the legal ban on international leisure travel has been lifted since January.
