You can’t resist these winter wildlife safaris in India
Winter has finally arrived, and it’s time to venture into the wild again. If you, like us, cannot afford to miss out on a trip to the wildlife havens, here is a list of national parks in India that you must visit this winter.
Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh
The best of Bandhavgarh National Park can be experienced during the winter months between November and February, when one gets the opportunity to go on a safari through grassland and meadows. Pack yourself up really well unless you want to complain about the chill that might get you in the spine! Home to Bengal tigers, this park is also home to 250 species of birds and more than 40 species of mammals.
Bandipur National Park, Karnataka
When in the South, you definitely need to explore this gem of a place. Once the private hunting grounds of the Maharaja of Mysore, this park is now home to a good population of flora and fauna. Plan a trip to this place during winters, when the beautiful rain forest surrounding this spot makes it a sight to behold. During this time, one cannot miss the beautiful water bodies and the turn even prettier. Do note that during the months of November and February, it can really get cold and you might be greeted with some surprise showers too.
Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand
Famed for gorgeous landscapes and Bengal tigers, Jim Corbett National Park is undoubtedly one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in the country. It’s also one of the oldest national parks in the country, when during the winters, the park welcomes as many as 586 species of migratory birds. Enjoy safari during this time, but make sure you take your woollens with you as temperature might dip below zero degrees during winters.
Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh
It’s one of the best places to spot the Royal Bengal Tigers in their best natural habitat. Owing to the same, the national park is also a part of Project Tiger. With vast grasslands and it being home to more than 100 kinds of plants, this place is a paradise for nature lovers too. During the safari, you can spot a number of colourful migratory birds, swamp deer, jackal, sloth bear, and many more. It’s a must-visit park in the winters, but do note that the weather gets very cold from December to February.
Panna National Park, Madhya Pradesh
This national park is one of the must-visit parks in the country and also won the Award of Excellence in 2007. Home to more than 1200 species of plants, some of the common animals that you can spot here apart from the majestic Bengal tigers, are sambar, spotted bear, wolf, chinkara, chital, and more. If you want to witness the true beauty of the forest and landscapes of Panna, winter is the best time to visit this place.
Kaziranga National Park, Assam
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this national park is famed for the one-horned rhinos. This park also showcases the beauty of Assam and lures visitors from far and near. Some of the prominent animals that you can spot here are tigers, elephants, and various other species of animals, such as swamp deer, leopards, and more. The park also boasts a good number of both resident and migratory species.
