Sri Krishna Museum, set up by Kurukshetra Development Board in year 1987, is one of a kind in India. It has six galleries that depict the life of Lord Krishna, the story of Geeta and the Mahabharata, all with the help of artefacts collected from all over India. It is also a very insightful museum for art lovers as myriad paintings and sculptures from different Indian states are exhibited. One can see Chittara, Talapatrachitras, Warli, and Madhubani paintings in different galleries. There are wooden sculptures of Lord Krishna in various forms and sizes. Some of these are so big that it is somewhat hard to believe that they could be carved out of a single piece of wood. Some of these are so lustrous that they could pass off as stone. My favourite gallery is the one that depicts various episodes from Mahabharata and Lord Krishna's life through dioramas. It shows Vasudev crossing the river in the middle of a heavy downpour with the infant Krishna placed in a basket over his head, Krishna lifting Govardhan hill on the tip of his little finger so that the villagers can be saved from damaging rain, and Krishna romancing his beloved Radha. After visiting this museum, you might know more about Lord Krishna than most others!
