Top Places in Sharjah that every Shopaholic must visit
Nothing beats Sharjah when it comes to shopping. Shopping in Sharjah can be broadly classified in two main segments – wandering through the traditional souqs or walking through malls. From gold to flavourful dates and oriental carpets, you can find just about anything your heart desires in Sharjah’s traditional souks, independent boutiques and malls.
We’ve chalked out a shopping map that you must consider if you are visiting Sharjah.
Souq Al Arsah
Step into Souq Al Arsah and you are instantly transported to an era that saw Bedouins come here in the quest for rice. While the market has evolved to accommodate items of daily use as opposed to just grains, it still houses the vintage charm. This traditional souq, located in the Heart of Sharjah, is known for traditional handmade jewellery, medicinal herbs, pearl chests, copper coffee pots and other antiques. This is one of the cheapest markets and can be visited between 9 AM and 9 PM.
Souq Al Jubail
This souq is very popular for its fish market and auction that takes place every afternoon. You can also purchase best quality dates from this souq at the best price. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, you will also find best quality chocolates to take back home.
Central Souq
Popularly known as the Blue Souk, it earned its nickname from the beautiful blue tiles that grace the market. The two-storey souk consists of two long parallel buildings connected by indoor bridges. It is one of Sharjah’s most photographed buildings and even features on the UAE five-dirham bank note. If perfumes, cosmetics and clothes draw your fancy, there can be no better place to shop at other than Central Souq. If you are buying in bulk, you have a chance to strike a bargain as the souq deals in wholesale provision.
Souk al Shanasiyah
One of the oldest souqs in the region, named after the state of Shanas merchants who used to populate the souq, it is now reconstructed for new experiences. This beautifully renovated souk specialises in regional designers and unique ware. Each shop is divided in two, with the artisans busy at work on one side and their goods lined up for sale on the other. Shop for stylish furniture and homeware, prayer beads, Arabic perfumes and oils, and high-quality clothing including bespoke kandoras and handcrafted abayas.
Sahara Centre
If you wish to explore modern brands and shop for electronics or home décor, then Sahara Centre is your go to place. The shopping mall also features an upscale cinema, multi-cuisine restaurants, play area for kids and welcoming spas. If the listed attractions don’t lure you, Sahara Centre marvelous architecture sure will.
Mega Mall
Spanning four floors, Mega Mall is a great place to visit for a day of family fun. Kids will love Antic’s Land, an indoor theme park with 30 rides, including a roller coaster and mini ferries, while the whole family can enjoy a film at Novo Cinemas. There are more than 150 stores, covering fashion, accessories, electronics, toys as well as a food court and cafés.
