Royal Botanic Garden

An oasis of 30 hectare, the sprawling Royal Botanic Garden is one of the top ten tourist destinations for international visitors to Australia. Located on the foreshore of the harbour, it is a favourite place for visitors and Sydneysiders alike, to relax, unwind, or to get some exercise by walking or jogging along the paved pathways. A record 5 million visitors come through the gates annually. Founded in 1816, on the traditional land of the Cadigal people, the Garden is the oldest living botanic garden in Australia, and the second oldest in the southern hemisphere. Being a place of science, research and conservation, the Garden also represents the oldest living scientific institution in Australia. It is a short walk from Circular Quay, adjacent to the world-famous Sydney Opera House. For visitors, there is a chance to see thousands of Australian native plants, plus an extensive collection of international species, including plants from India and the south-east Asian region. Depending on the time of year, there are huge varieties of seasonal blooms that add a riot of colours to the panorama. The Garden also features several restaurants and cafes for to refuel, sit, relax and enjoy the tranquil beauty of the surrounding.
