Finding paradise
Google searches for couples’ getaways is very common these days and for couples who are avid travelers, Sharjah offers an adventure in the lap of the desert sands. Located only 3 hours away from India by air, a pocket-friendly weekend in Sharjah is a perfect way to reconnect.
Fall in love with the Rain Room
Rain Room, an immersive installation by Sharjah Art Foundation, allows you to experience rainfall without getting drenched. This amazing place is the spot for making memories and taking those photos you will treasure for a lifetime. This site-specific installation uses 2,500 l of self-cleaning recycled water, which is controlled through a system of networked 3D tracking cameras. The work explores how humankind's relationships to one another and to nature are increasingly mediated through intangible technologies.
From dusk to dawn in Mleiha
Mleiha is a paradise for history buffs. Studies provide proof of human existence in the region dating back to 130,000 and 120,000 years. Enjoy a guided excursion that allows you a glimpse of the history of this region. A visit to an archeological site here lets you witness evidences of early humans passing through the area on their way to Asia during the Palaeolithic era. There’s a plethora of adventures you can try here - chase the desert winds on a thrilling buggy ride; afterwards, head to the sunset point to watch the sun disappear amongst the dunes, and finally end your day with a stargazing session, where an astronomer will point at various constellations and planets. Stories of the night skies will only stoke the adventurer in you. Further, catch a glimpse of the twinkling stars in the clear sky through the most advanced telescope. Eat a freshly cooked meal in the desert, and at night , doze off in the tent, under a million stars twinkling for the both of you! Next morning, you can head to the sunrise point, and perched on the red sand, you can bask in silence of the rising sun as it lights up the horizon.
Escape to nature’s paradise in the Al Noor Island
Al Noor Island, located in the Sharjah corniche sits in the middle of Khalid Lagoon. It is flanked by the iconic Al Noor Mosque, and is a must visit! It also houses The Butterfly House, which is home to more than 500 butterflies belonging to 20 different exotic species. This dreamy space, located inside an ergonomically designed, nature-inspired structure, retains humidity to house 70,000 plants and trees, and nourishes this haven with natural light. Covered with plants, the butterfly house provides a perfect sanctuary to make the butterflies feel at home. Some of the most precious winged beauties here include the pink rose, emerald swallowtail, and the tailed jay. Besides nature, you can also explore the bespoke art sculptures, and installations. There are 6 different installations across the island, each seamlessly integrated with its cultural and natural environs.
Immerse yourself in Shopping
Sharjah is known for its numerous options of world class shopping malls and souqs, that offer a wide array of shopping options. Don’t forget to buy some amazing dates and traditional perfumes for family and friends back home.
Where to go: Head to the one of the many high end shopping centres or traditional souks and have your entire souvenir commitments sorted. Look for the best quality dates and chocolates to take home with you. Don’t be surprised if you find an Arabic perfume which remains a favourite long after you are back home.
Explore the Heart of Sharjah
Restoring the traditional heritage areas of Sharjah and linking them together, the Heart of Sharjah is the first development of its kind. It is also the region's biggest heritage project to date. Seeking to reflect what Sharjah was like over half a century ago, the project restores and revamps the city's traditional areas to create a wholesome tourist and trade destination with contemporary touches, while retaining the feel of the 1950s.
What you can do: Visit the Sharjah Heritage Museum, which is dedicated to highlighting Sharjah’s authentic heritage and rich culture of Emirati people,.. It also emphasizes on the values of deep rooted customs and traditions, a legacy from ancestors passed down as a source of pride to the coming generations.
