Exploring around Kathmandu
Kathmandu is an eastern wonder, and there is denying that. But if you are looking for something more to do, something more to see, then we suggest that you opt for some of these day-trips.
Namobuddha
A sacred Buddhist destination, it is just about 2 hours away from Kathmandu. The Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery here is the centre of attraction. Visitors can even make a day of it, and check into one of the many guest houses located here. The views from this place are mesmerising.
Bhaktapur
This ancient city is the city of devotees, and was founded in the 12th century. One of the most visited places, Bhaktapur is strikingly beautiful, thanks to the unique architecture that you can see all around you. The Durbar Square holds all the great attractions here in the city. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Shivapuri National Park
Established in 2002, Shivapuri National Park is less than 2 hours away from Kathmandu. The beautiful forested park is full of hiking trails, and it is also home to some monasteries, and nunneries. You can go on a day hike here at the park. Enter from the Budhanilkantha side. The views from the monastery are breathtaking.
Nagarkot
A stunning village near the Kathmandu Valley, Nagarkot is a wonderful getaway. A hot-favourite thing to do here is to watch the sunrise over the Himalayas. It is a quiet little place that has its own charm, and though there is not much to do here, just spending some time here could refresh you.
Pharping
You will be pleasantly surprised at the number of things to do here. Pharping is a little gem that is only about 50 minutes away from Kathmandu. There are some amazing old temples, and monasteries here, with the Dakshinkali Temple being one of the most important ones. You can also go on a day hike here.
Panauti
Yet another ancient city in Nepal, Panauti has its many charms that will pull you in. It is an important place for history and culture buffs, but one could also explore its adventurous hiking side. The Indreshwar Mahadev Temple is a must-visit, which was built sometime between 13th and 18th centuries. It has a rustic charm to it that is undeniable.
Changu Narayan hiking tour
This ancient temple is a must-visit when you are in Kathmandu. But don’t just visit it, hike to it for a complete experience. There are two routes that you can take, one from Sankhu, while the other is from Telkot. Both these places can be reached via a 45 minutes drive from Kathmandu, and you can then take the beautiful hiking trail to this ancient temple.
