There is no better place than the Square, formerly known as Plaza Mayor, to get acquainted with the culture of the place. After sun sets, the whole town is seemingly transformed into a stage for street bands, rumba and salsa dancing. Prepare for the time when someone will hand you an instrument and invite you to join in. Shaking the rattles and your hips is all part of the experience here. Make sure to make your way into the main square where tables and chairs surround a large dance floor, along with a stage complete with a live salsa band. It is here where you can truly gel with the crowd, dance with throngs of young, old, professionals and beginners until the music stops when the sun begins to rise. If you feel like taking lessons before heading to the Square, then you need not worry as Trinidad is loaded with salsa instructors who charge as little as $5/hr. Just remember, follow the music, shake your hips and have fun!
