As per the latest passport rule introduced by the government, it has now become mandatory for every applicant to pay pending traffic fines in order to get his/her passport application approved. So, whether you are applying for a new passport or want to get the existing passport renewed, the passport authorities won’t give their heads up on your application unless all traffic dues are cleared.
According to the news reports, if anyone has pending dues up to INR 1,200, his/her passport application will be put on hold until the fine is duly paid off to the concerned department. This rule was introduced in the last week of August 2018, and already, there are more than 90 passport applications being kept on hold in Pune alone for the obvious reason.
Apparently, the move will help the government keep cases of traffic violations in check.
