If you want to buy anything and everything under the sun, make a pit stop at Monastiraki Flea Market. This traditional market is open only on Sundays, and we suggest going there early in the morning to make the most of your visit. If you can’t make it on a Sunday, there are a slew of permanent shops that are open throughout the week. So, what can you find here? Think handmade jewellery, antiques, clothing and more. Your shopping skills are put to test here as the shops selling authentic goods are located amidst plenty of fake ones. Don’t be fooled by the cheap sandals that are made in China and imported to Greece, instead seek out the stalls where they are made -to –order. By 11am on a Sunday this market is packed with people making it even more lively and entertaining. If you want to take a break from bargaining with shop owners, there are a few cafes dotting the streets. It’s a place not- to-be-missed, especially on a Sunday, and chances are, you will never forget the often-so-chaotic experience.
