The Jawharlal Nehru Sports Complex was the main venue for the IX Asian Games in 1982 as well as the Commonwealth Games in 2010. In fact, its massive 53800 sq. mt. membrane supported structure with a capacity of 60,000 spectators became the symbol of Commonwealth Games. It is the fourth largest multipurpose stadium in the country (the 51st in the world). Read less
The Jawharlal Nehru Sports Complex was the main venue for the IX Asian Games in 1982 as well as the Commonwealth Games in 2010. In fact, its massive 53800 sq. mt. membrane supported structure with a capacity of 60,000 spectators became the symbol of Commonwealth Games. It is the fourth largest multipurpose stadium in the country (the 51st in the world).The design is similar to that of Foshan Stadium in China since it was built by the same designers. In case of an emergency, it allows complete evacuation within six minutes!
Situated on Lodhi Road, the complex was the main venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, the inaugural events in addition to Athletics, Football, Lawn Bowls and Weightlifting events.
