In a new initiative, Indian Railways is planning to promote heritage by preservation of its heritage. The railways will be taking some measures to reform and promote heritage. Indian Railways recently organised an event that included heritage officers of Zonal Railways and Production Units. It planned to give attention to the heritage of the railways in the country. They are also looking to launch a special drive that would help to identify heritage items at different locations. The reforms will include reviving steam locomotives, and have regular time-tabled trains on steam traction. Also, the railway board is also looking to start a logbook that would contain all major events of the Indian Railways. One of the most important reforms would be the preservation and maintenance of Hill Railways.

The event was attended by close to 40 senior officers, and the heritage preservation talks were on. There was also an open interactive session at the National Rail Museum. It was decided that the process will include preserving, managing, and conservation of buildings, bridges and stations. Other things included are Digital India’s Digital Rail campaign, archives of meter gauge, narrow gauge, digitization and conservation of railway archives.
