After a Boat ride on the Dunajec River, we took a small horse ride to the Chata Pieniny where there were Slovak restaurants that served us some food and played some lovely local music with their giant sized musical instruments. They could even reproduce any Indian tune that we sang for them, almost instantaneously. After a Boat ride on the Dunajec River, we took a small horse ride to the Chata Pieniny where there were Slovak restaurants that served us some food and played some lovely local music with their giant sized musical instruments. They could even reproduce any Indian tune that we sang for them, almost instantaneously. There were wooden sculptures for sale but I decided to walk around and really admired big wooden sculptures depicting the 12 zodiac signs. Most interesting part of this place was a ceremony performed by the Goral Tribe of Slovakia. They invited us to be a part of the ritual that would make us a member of the Goral tribe. So a tribal head in his tribal dress announces your name and then performs a ritual with a sword in his hand. It was scary yet exciting. The tribe head gives a traditional hat with cowry shells on it to the new convert. After this ceremony, all those who are converted are made to drink wine together from a single long wooden panel with 4-5 cups on it. In the end, a certificate of tribe is given to you certifying that you are a part of the Goral tribe. It is a fun ritual that in a very funny way tells you a bit about the tribal life and lets you have a firsthand taste of it a bit.
