Writers' Building
This iconic building first opened to public in the year 1780 and is located in B.B.D. Bagh that was erstwhile known as Dalhousie Square. The building was home to the office of the Chief Minister of West Bengal, and other officials of the state. That has now changed since most important offices has shifted to a newer building. At the top of the building is a statue of Minerva, the Roman Goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare, justice, law, victory, and the sponsor of arts, trade, and strategy.
Marble Palace
A beautiful and elegant building that contains marble walls, and floors, it was built by a Bengali merchant, Raja Rajendra Mullick. Built in neoclassical style, the building has open courtyards that is common in traditional Bengali architecture. Today it houses numerous Victorian paintings, and more. You need prior permission before entering the building as it is a private residence.
Jorasanko Thakurbari
The palatial home of the Tagore family is today a museum. Rabindranath Tagore was born in this house, and all the renowned members of the Tagore family called it home. Most members of the Tagore family were visionaries of that time, from artists, to high officials, thinkers, intellectuals, and writers. Rabindranath Tagore's second eldest brother, Satyendranath Tagore was in fact the first Indian to join the Civil Services. While, their father Debendranath Tagore was a religious reformer, and philosopher. also the founder of the Brahmo religion.
