Embarrassing things that we all have been guilty of doing while on a trip
Why do people travel? There are many reasons that might ring true for you, which may vary and may be very personal; some travel to learn or experience something new, challenge themselves, to build and strengthen relationships, or just escape from their mundane life for a while. But, while doing all of these, many seek the comfort of their home even during a vacation and thus end up getting hassled. Or, in some instances, sheer ignorance lands them in a soup.
A lot of us, at times, also end up committing some embarrassing acts, which we might never even admit or share with anyone else.
Here’s a list of a few embarrassing moments that we all might have experienced. Read on and single out the ones that you have also been a part of.
Making offensive hand gestures
You should be very careful with your gestures while travelling to a new place. While in India, we use the ‘rock on’ sign as a cool gesture, it hints at something entirely different in certain countries, such as Spain, Colombia, and Brazil. This sign is often used in these countries to insult a person indicating that their partner is cheating on them. Better be careful!
The posed photos
You might have seen too many photos where people pose pinching the tip of the Taj Mahal, the reason being a lot of people click the same kind of photograph. And even if you don’t want to give in to the photographer’s persuasion, you also don’t want to feel left out in such popular tourist hotspots.
Incorrect language
When on foreign shores, be aware of your surroundings. Check out the official language of the country you are travelling too, as you might find yourself in a situation where you are trying to communicate via hand gestures, only to find out later that their first language is also English.
Posing and posting social media cliché
Posing and posting pictures of your hand shaped like a heart, or pouting with an ostrich, make sure you also enjoy the surroundings and appreciate the efforts of people around you. If you are always glued to your phone screen, and checking what your virtual friends are up to, you could have done that from the comfort of your bedroom too.
Not carrying the right shoes
Many of us don’t bother about this part when planning a trip. So, if you land up in a snowy destination, and the only extra pair that you have is flat sandals, well, then we wish you luck and a happy trip.
Favourite TV shows
Then, there are many people who get turned off if their hotel room does not have a TV set, as they don’t want to miss out on their favourite TV show. Remember, you are on a vacation, and you shouldn’t waste your time watching shows that can wait.
Not showering at all
Reasons might be many like no hot water, or you being simply short of time. But body odour is a complete no! So yes, never skipping bathing in such continuous fashion!
Cultural faux pas
If you don't do adequate research before venturing out to travel, chances are that you might make a faux pas or two when you are in a foreign land. You need to be aware of the fact that PDA (public display of affection) can land you in trouble in orthodox countries, and much more.
