Bangkok Art and Culture Center

Nothing beats free admission to an amazing museum—and the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) offers travellers just that. The architecture and design of the building is almost as noteworthy as the art hanging on the walls inside. Opening recently in 2008, its curvy design—which includes a giant spiral staircase—gives the space a modern, airy feel. BACC is geared toward tourists, with title cards in English and English-speaking staff, and quality exhibitions by both local and international artists.
Many contemporary mediums are on display here, including photography, experimental video art, and of course paintings. Exhibitions are frequently led by different curators, which keeps shows fresh year after year. From Friday through Sunday, you can find a charming art market stationed right outside the building’s doors. BACC also has a good art library, coffee shops, and gift stores. Best of all, the centre is located close to the National Stadium, Jim Thompson House, and other private galleries. Be aware it’s closed on Mondays, with open hours between 10 am and 9 pm Tuesday through Sunday.
