If you are looking for classy, old-world style, you’ll find it in spades at the Pied Piper Bar at San Francisco’s Palace Hotel. The bar is named after a stunning Maxfield Palace mural that adorns the bar, and the decor will make you have stepped into a scene from Mad Men.Take a seat at the glamorous bar beneath the stunning artwork, sit back sipping a martini or an old-fashioned, and you’ll understand why this bar has been a mainstay of the city for more than 100 years. The room features mosaic tile floors, and expensive looking wood panelling, along with gorgeous table setting. The Pied Piper painting was commissioned from artist Maxfield Parrish for the hotel’s reopening in 1909, and apart from 3 interruptions it has hung above the bar for more than 100 years.
A trip to the Pied Piper is worth not only for the ambience, but also the beer, wine, and cocktail list. Most of the beers (draught or bottles) are $7, wine by the glass ranges from $12 to $20, and their signature cocktails are mostly around the $12 mark.
Drink to try: Try the Boothby Cocktail, A cocktail made in homage to a famous ex-bartender at the Palace Hotel. Rye Whiskey, Italian Vermouth, Bitters, Luxardo Cherry finished with Sparkling Wine.
