With this development, the ever-expanding Indian Railways sector will be getting tilting trains by 2025.
If reports are to go by, the Indian Railways has explored numerous options in the past regarding such trains, however, nothing was finalised in any detail. The railways also had discussions with Spanish manufacturer Talgo, as well as the Switzerland government.
Now, what are tilting trains?
Referring to this, an official explained that as a train takes a curve at speed, it causes objects to slide, which also makes the seated passengers feel squashed by the armrest, while standing passengers tend to lose their balance. However, the tilting trains will come equipped with a mechanism that will enable them to tilt while taking a curve or bend on the track.
He further added that the design of the tilting trains counteract this, and that the tilting trains in India will have a mechanism that will allow them to run at higher speeds on regular broad-gauge tracks.
