You’d imagine a Buddhist restaurant to be anything but posh—or delicious for that matter—but Pure Veggie House in Central shatters your misconceptions from the minute you walk into its swanky interiors. The inside is decorated with beautiful Chinese calligraphy and traditional art, scattered bamboo elements and just the right number of Buddha statues without going into overkill. The seating is varied—you can book a private room, or choose between the regular table seating on one end and traditional floor seating on the other. The menu is strictly vegetarian (you could be fooled to think otherwise with their soya mock meats), and dishes are updated and added to the menu regularly, so every time you visit there’ll be something new to try out. The dim sum menu is a huge hit with locals, and other favourites include the steamed eggplant, sliced tofu, Sichuan-style bamboo pith soaked in chili oil, and a variety of rice rolls. Alternatively, you can opt for their 18 Luohans menu, which comprises of 18 signature dishes based on the Buddhism concept.
