Best of South India
India is a country where food is an adventure in itself. Talking about food tourism, India can be an unending experience. There are numerous regions with its unique kinds of foods, and then there are variations within a region as well. So, as you can imagine, it is quite an exciting side to explore. If you happen to be in India, you need to make sure that you try some South Indian delights. There are the top four quintessential South Indian items that you must eat when in India.
Dosa
From the streets of Tamil Nadu, to the fine dining restaurants in Kerala, this is what it is all about. Dosa is an extraordinary dish that, as of today has become one of the most sought after Indian dishes abroad. Westerners call it a crepe, but we know that this beauty is just more than that. The dosa comes with amazing fillings, or even just plain. You just dip it in the coconut chutney, and sambar, and you are set for the day. There’s also the tiny doas that are simply eaten with the famed gun-powder chutney.
Vada
Yet another beauty found on the streets and even in high-end restaurants, the humble looking Vada simply comforts your soul. The doughnut looking vadas are actually savouries, and definitely scores high when it comes to some of the top dishes in the country. A quick plate of vada is filling, delicious, and is even full of nutrients. Made from lentil batter, and a bunch of spices, this deep fried goodness is hard to ignore.
Uttapam
An improvised appam, Uttapam is a satisfying South Indian dish that is great as a snack, or a breakfast item. It is almost like a dosa, but unlike a traditional dosa, this one is thicker, and has toppings. The batter is made of black gram, and rice, and is certainly a tasty delight. Already popular all across the country, Uttapam is known by different names in different parts of the country. Your South Indian food tour is incomplete without this delicious item.
Idli
An iconic South Indian dish, Idli is certainly one of India’s hot favourite dishes, originating from South India. The combination of Idli-Sambar is as loveable as any other duo, and you cannot just have one of these, as there will always be room for some more. Idlis are basically rice cakes that are served with sambar, which is a vegetable stew with lentils. One of the greatest breakfast dishes in the country, you can find these plain white beauties anywhere in the country.
