If you are looking for amazing natural landscapes, historical cities and local villages, and you don’t know where to go, then just visit the surroundings of Bolzano. Given its historical association with Tyrol and Austria, German language and culture are widely spread in this regional capital of the autonomous area of South Tyrol, making it unique in the Italian Peninsula. While in the city of Bolzano you will still feel the Italian influence because of the post-war colonisation, but once you step out of it, you'll be totally immersed in sleepy medieval villages where German is the only language, Italian is not happily spoken and the many historical traditions recall Teutonic origin. South Tyrol is also famous for its pristine nature and in particular, for its alpine environment. The Dolomites are world famous for their stunning views, sky slopes and pink sunsets, and are inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Starting from Bolzano, there is also a protected network of cycling paths passing through vineyards and apple plantations that makes most of our suggestions easily accessible by a two-wheeler as well. Moreover, all these popular places to visit around Bolzano can be reached within an hour’s drive.
