These beautiful Indian beaches glow in the dark!
If you are a beach lover, you will definitely love these beaches more! You will not only be awed by its pristine waters and surrounding beauty, but also because of their unique phenomenon - glow in the dark. So, to make your beach tip more exciting, here we bring to you some extraordinary beaches that actually glow in the dark.
Betalbatim Beach, Goa
Well, Goa is synonymous with beaches! Many visit this place to get the most of the beaches. However, did you know that this place also boasts of a special beach that stands apart for its glowing phenomenon? Yes, this popular tourist spot also has a beach that glows in the dark. And it is because of the bioluminescence that further enhances its glowing appearance during the waves.
For great experience, you need to know that the water tends to glow every time a tide disturbs its rhythm, which automatically dims when the waters are steady.
Bangaram Beach, Ladshadweep
Famed for its turquoise waters and scenic beauty, this beach also offers people ample options to not just enjoy the view, but also to indulge in water sports, and dining at the beach. Not just this, this beach is also well-known for its glowing feature, which its waters start emitting at night. For your information, this glowing phenomenon is attributed to phytoplankton, algae, and other creatures, which are found in the waters here, like the jellyfish. Nevertheless, the view is more than just breathtaking!
Juhu Beach, Mumbai
The Juhu beach is just like any usual beach that sees visitors almost throughout the day. But what makes this usual beach an unique one is its special feature of glowing in the dark. So next time when you visit this place, try to notice the stunning blue waves that crash at the shore. This happens because of the marine microbes called phytoplankton which are known for lending bright blue glow to these waters. And as the tides and currents change, microbes wash ashore, and provide glow-like occurrences.
Beaches in Havelock Island, Andaman
Make your trip to the Andamans more exciting and fun by visiting the beaches in Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep), where you can witness the glowing phenomenon as you sail across. If reports are to go by, this thing happens because of the presence of phytoplankton in abundance in the marine waters. Also, if you can visit this place during no moon night, you get to witness the best bioluminescence effect.
Mattu Beach, Karnataka
If you are visiting Karnataka anytime soon, make sure you visit Mattu Beach for an unusual experience. This pristine beach exhibits a similar glowing phenomenon like the other beaches mentioned above. Famed for beautiful sunsets, this secluded beach further stretches for around 30 km. This beach also glows in the dark because of the marine invertebrates, and some microorganisms that produce bioluminescence.
Thiruvanmiyur Beach, Chennai
This is another popular beach in the county that is not only known for offering breathtaking sunrise views, but also for the glowing phenomenon. It’s also interesting to note that this bioluminescence effect was discovered here only in 2019. In Chennai, glowing beaches were unheard of, until this one was discovered. Do note that this is a rare phenomenon , but turns into a sight to behold when it glows.
