Dubai has precious few comedy outlets. In fact, The Laughter Factory is the only one. Each month, a trio of established comedians from throughout the English-speaking world tour a handful of venues (usually bars, so stiff drinks are always on hand), and proceed to spread the mirth. The Laughter Factory often snags some top headliners, including the likes of Russell Peters and Jack Whitehall.
If you think stand-up comedy in the Middle East will be, well, a somewhat tame affair, think again. The Laughter Factory’s comics are just as racey as they would be back home, and at times more so. There’s no doubt most of the material would be edited out by local censors if it were in a film and not on stage, yet somehow, they get away with it.
