If you have ever seen a postcard with a picturesque mosque standing in front of the Bosphorus Bridge, then you know what Ortakoy looks like. Ortakoy is a small neighbourhood on the European side of Istanbul, next to the entrance of the Bosphorus Bridge. Formerly a separate village, it is now a part of Besiktas district and has been integrated into the main city of Istanbul after its expansion.
The most important landmark and the reason why most of the people come to this neighbourhood is Ortakoy Mosque, completed in 1856 in Ottoman Neo Baroque style. While it cannot compete with Sultanahmet Mosque in size, it's the grandeur that astonishes visitors. With its finely decorated interior, it looks more like a Beaux Arts Parisian residence than a mosque.
