Just a few kilometers outside New Orleans, there are bayous and swamps that have a unique eco-system, and are at once both beautiful and mysterious. Swamp tours are offered by many operators, and visitors can leisurely cruise the waters covered in aquatic vegetation and moss, interspersed with lovely cypress trees. The waters look calm and peaceful, but just underneath could be lurking alligators as much as 10 feet long. The swamps and bayous are also full of other kinds of creatures including snakes, waterfowls, musk rats, raccoons, swamp deer, and many varieties of birds. For a more intense experience head out West for a few hours to the Creole Nature Trail which has stunning swamps.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
