A safari holiday can be a life enhancing travel experience quite unlike any other. The best safaris, generally in Africa, mean proximity to wildlife in a pristine environment, and the frontier feel of the safari camps and lodges makes these trips unique—especially for children. Unfortunately the best of them can be expensive, and also exclusive—which is to say that the less isolated you are, the less intense the experience. In recent years the safari experience has become more and more popular—there are now plenty of budget safari options available. However, the downside is that national parks like the Masai Mara in Kenya can feel like a suburban wildlife park—so if you cannot afford the exclusive kind, choose your location carefully. A safari can still be a rare and unique experience.
