Eiffel Tower lights up, says ‘MERCI’ to health workers fighting the COVID pandemic

With France under lockdown for the Novel Coronavirus outbreak, one of the most visited cities, i.e., Paris, has turned into a ghost town. Paris’s most famous landmark, the Eiffel Tower, has been left standing alone, completely deserted.
In what has been described as the toughest health-related restrictions ever imposed in France’s modern history, people can leave their homes only for specific reasons. Across the city, police officers have started patrolling, stopping pedestrians, and pulling over cars to check their papers. Meanwhile, health workers have been working day in and day out to treat the ever-increasing cases of COVID-19 patients.

Amidst all this, the Eiffel Tower had a message for the French public: Stay home. Also, as a mark of gratitude, this most famous landmark of Paris, has been lit up in golden hues to broadcast Thank You’ message to all the health care workers, who have been at the frontline and struggling to contain the deadly virus.
Lights also spelled out Merci, French for Thank You, and Stay at Home in English on Friday night along with the Eiffel Tower lighting up. This display of solidarity started with the citizens in lockdown across France applauding and cheering from their balconies and windows in support of nurses and doctors.
Referring to this act, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said lightings on the 324 m tall Eiffel Tower will take place every evening.

Needless to add, the sight of this hotspot illuminated in gold and projecting MERCI is a sight to behold.
