For a week or more's Leh and Ladakh itinerary, it is advisable to stay in Leh on your first day and get acclimatised. You can explore the town and go shopping for trinkets on your first day. There are a few restaurants downtown that must be in your Ladakh itinerary, most of these being small food joints like Cafe Jeevan and Gsemo Restaurant. You can choose to eat at one of these food joints during your first day in Leh; since you will be out of Leh proper for most of your intended sightseeing, it will be prudent to place a request at your hotel or one of the restaurants for packed meals. This itinerary has been designed in a way that none of the routes see a rapid increase in altitude. In any case, if there are signs of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), get to a lower altitude without any further delay.
