A new moon is rising in Mumbai at the Nehru Planetarium

Mumbai gets a new moon at the Nehru Planetarium Mumbai, after efforts by Asian Paints & Sideways with St+art Indian Foundation. By new moon we mean a massive Lunar Dome, which has been constructed to pay tribute to the members of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for their Chandrayaan missions. The dome was installed last week, and is already grabbing eyeballs.
The Lunar Dome has been built with the help of 1 artist, 2 assistants, and 6-7 volunteers who worked for over two months. The Lunar Dome is currently the biggest moon installations in India, with a length of 86 m. The painting has been done by a painter who is popularly known as Sharad, and the real name is Gulammahmad Bukhari. He is a spray painter from Rajkot. He has been assisted by artists Kadari Alammiya, and Munir Abdulrashul Bukhari, along with a team 0f six other artists.


The Director of St+art Indian Foundation, Hanif Quereshi said in a statement, “They had to install over 2500 bamboos to make the scaffolding to reach the top. The rain played a huge part in this challenging work.”
The spherical object or orb as it is called resembles the Moon’s southern hemisphere, with beautiful details of the Tycho Crater, which is a prominent lunar depression.

You can check out the Lunar Dome for the next few months here at the Nehru Planetarium Mumbai. The authorities here at the Nehru Center has also installed a viewing gallery so that visitors can have a good experience. The timings for entry is from 11 am to 9:30 pm, and the entry is free on all days of the week.
