If you land in Indonesia and you limit your experience to Bali, then you are missing out some of the finest temples, roaring volcanoes and traditions that the Indonesian archipelago has to offer. A visit to Java Island, the most populated of the whole country, can't be complete without some days spent in its cultural capital, Yogyakarta. You will be greeted by friendly and smiley people, thousands of motorbikes and a few old folks on their bicycles. It is a favorite touristic base to visit Borobudur Buddhist temple and Prambanan Hindu complex, two UNESCO protected sites considered to be the most important archeological areas of the whole country.
Just a few kilometers away from the city and you are already in the paddy fields, where art becomes daily life and penetrate the atmosphere. Go further south and you'll have a plethora of beaches and cliffs to choose from. If you are fearless enough, go to the North to challenge yourself and hike on the most active of the 150 Indonesian volcanoes, Mount Merapi.
