Apple may launch its
Apple Intelligence feature for Mac users in the EU with its upcoming software update. According to a report by 9to5Mac, the release notes of the recent beta update suggest that Apple Intelligence features may become available for Mac users in the EU. However, these features may remain blocked from iPhones and iPads in the region.
The release notes for developer beta 1 of macOS Sequoia 15.1 and iOS 18.1 (seen by the publication) have confirmed the same.
“Apple Intelligence is available on
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple Intelligence is not currently available in the EU or China," the release notes for developer beta 1 of iOS 18.1 noted.
“Apple Intelligence is available on Macs with M1 and later. Apple Intelligence is not currently available in China," the release note of macOS Sequoia 15.1 claimed.
These portions in the release notes suggest that while Apple Intelligence is blocked in China on all platforms, EU users may be excluded only from iOS and iPadOS, but not the Mac.
Why Mac users in the EU may get Apple Intelligence features
Apple's highly anticipated AI features, set to debut in iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia, will initially be exclusive to US English users. Earlier, the company stated that Apple Intelligence would be unavailable in the EU.
Apple cited the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) for not bringing Apple Intelligence to the region. The company was concerned that the upcoming Apple Intelligence features may not comply with the DMA’s requirements. As a result, the company decided to hold off on these features from the region while it actively discusses with EU regulators about launching the features.
However, the Mac may not be impacted by the same requirements of the DMA as iPhones and iPads are. So, Apple may not face any objection to launch Apple Intelligence in the EU.
