The market has become competitive, especially regarding affordable TWS earbuds. Most players are trying to eat up as much market share as they can with every new product and the latest attempt has been made by Noise with its Buds N1 earbuds.
Buds N1 is an affordable offering, priced at Rs 1,199 and it is relatively feature-rich for the asking price. For instance, it has an edgy design, plus comes with big 11mm drivers, 40 hours of claimed battery life, a Hyper-sync feature and more.
So, is it any good, just an average TWS earbuds that’s available as an option for users to buy, let’s find out in our full review.
Design
Noise Buds N1 has a rather smaller footprint, the rectangular charging case with rounded off corners makes it feel comfortable to hold and is easily pocketable too. The overall thickness is also adequate to not make people feel uncomfortable when putting it in their skinny jeans’ picket.
Talking about the earbuds, they’ve got the AirPods Pro-like design language, however, the differences are in place. For instance, the stem has a flat and wedge design with indication lights at the top of the stem.
The wedge shape makes it comfortable to hold and the case's landscape orientation makes it easy to take them out and put it back.
The earpiece design is in-ear and it has the right amount of extension that fits well in the ear canals. Fit is good and they don’t protrude much while wearing. Also, comfort is good and we did not feel any fatigue or pain as such while them for longer durations. Also, the insulation level is good and offers decent passive noise cancellation too.
Overall build quality is good enough, it’s made in and out with plastic, however, the materials are good and the matte-finish texture makes them relatively more durable as well as less prone to scratches.
Audio quality and performance
The 11mm drivers onboard in each earbud are decent and have a bass-heavy nature. However, the tuning is good enough to keep the vocals and trebles separated from the punchy bass. Expect a few situations, we never found the bass rattling and killing the vocals and overall details of the background score.
For instance, Taylor Swift’s Blank Space sounded pretty much natural. The bass was pronounced well with deep effect and vocals and trebles were clear too. What we liked is that the treble is not that harsh and the equaliser graph is more or less done right. We also tried a couple of Hindi titles and songs from different genres and overall sound quality is good enough for the asking price.
While watching movies on streaming platforms, the audio quality was good enough with a good amount of sound separation and movements. While it isn’t as immersive as some other expensive offerings in the market, it won’t give you that really ‘cheap’ feeling despite the price tag.
Also, the 40ms response time makes the movie scene and audio sync well and it also applies while playing games like BGMI, CoD Mobile, etc.
One thing that we noticed is there’s a lot of sound bleed and some level of distortion at the highest volume, which can be a problem for many. However, if you reduce the volume to around 70% the clarity improves and the sound stops bleeding too.
Call quality is satisfactory as callers reported background noise coming during the call. The noise cancellation during the call isn’t good, so the earbuds aren’t the best if you are planning to take calls in busy surroundings. Nonetheless, if you usually live in quieter locations, then the vocals were clear.
The Bluetooth range is good and we did not notice any drop or stutter while roaming whing a 1900sq.ft house, thanks to Bluetooth v5.3. The onboard ‘Auto-paring’ feature comes in handy and smartphones are almost connected with the earbuds as soon as we take them out of the case.
The earbuds also support slide and touch gestures. Simply swiping up on the left, reduces the volume and the right one does the exact opposite. You can also use double-tap gestures to play/pause, skip tracks and wake up the digital assistant.
Battery life
Nosie has rated the earbuds to deliver 40 hours of playtime on a single charge. We got around 34 hours in a single charge. Which is impressive. Also, the total time it takes to charge from 0 to 100% is around 90 minutes. Also, it supports fast charging where we got around 15 minutes of listening time with 7-8 minutes of charge.
Verdict
Noise Buds N1 is affordable and offers a balance of features and audio quality. The battery life is impressive and the design is also different from what others are offering in this segment. If you are on a tight budget and looking for TWS earbuds mostly for listening to music and taking calls in quieter environments, then Buds N1 is a good option to go with.
