Great Britain secured a new Olympic Record during the men's team sprint qualifying round. The team of Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner, set a time of 42.562 over the 750m (3 laps).

Jason Kenny broke fellow Brit Callum Skinner’s Olympic record in the men’s team sprint with a time of 9.551s.

Women's Team Sprint – China

China roared into the Olympic track cycling women's team sprint final with a world record. Gong Jinjie and Zhong Tianshi clocked 31.98 seconds, beating the record China set four years ago in London

Men's Team Pursuit – Great Britain

Britain set a new track cycling world record in men's team pursuit in the qualifiers. The team of Bradley Wiggins, Ed Clancy, Steven Burke and Owain Doull set a time of 3: 50.570s.

Women's Team Pursuit – Great Britain

The quartet of Laura Trott, Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Joanna Rowsell-Shand won gold clocking 4:10.236s -- nearly two seconds quicker than the world record they set in the heats.

Women's Sprint – Becky James

Becky James set a new Olympic Record of 10.721 for the women’s track sprint in qualifying, beating the record held by her fellow Brit Victoria Pendleton from London 2012.

Men's Omnium - Norman Lasse Hansen

A new Olympic Record from Lasse Norman Hansen (bettering the one set by Bradley Wiggins at Beijing 2008) won the event , but his tumble during the elimination round meant he had to be content with bronze
