Connor McDavid shares how he is managing health issues to avoid joining the Edmonton Oilers injury list

As the NHL playoffs are around the corner, the Edmonton Oilers have entered a critical phase where they have to remain cautious about their players so they don't get affected by any further injuries. Owing to this situation, Oilers star Connor McDavid is reportedly taking a cautious approach with his recent physical issues with the team to navigate this critical stretch of the 2025-26 NHL season.

According to recent reports, the Oilers captain has been dealing with hip and groin issues and is managing his workload carefully to avoid aggravating the injury and missing significant time. McDavid's cautious approach comes at a difficult moment for the Edmonton Oilers, especially after his fellow team member Leon Draisaitl suffered an unexpected lower-body injury, keeping him away from the club for the remainder of the season. His absence has already put pressure on the team, making McDavid's health even more important as the playoffs approach.

Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid is busy managing his health, as the team has entered a crucial stretch of the season, and they cannot afford to miss another star player to injury in their lineup.

According to reports, McDavid left a recent practice early, which raised serious concerns. However, the forward later addressed it with a simple update about his condition. He stated, “Just hips & groin stuff. Yup, all good.” Though the issue is not serious, the team remains cautious, trying to avoid another injury blow to their lineup.


Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the situation, head coach Kris Knoblauch explained the decision around McDavid’s health situation, “He was on the line of taking a maintenance day. Just wanted to touch the ice (today),” the coach stated. This confirmed that the Oilers are exercising a very cautious approach, especially with the season nearing its final stage.

The Oilers are anyway dealing with a major blow ahead of the NHL playoffs, as star forward Leon Draisaitl will remain absent for the remainder of the 2025-26 regular season due to his serious lower-body injury. The player sustained the injury during Edmonton’s 3–1 victory over the Nashville Predators.

As for the current NHL playoff scenario, the Edmonton Oilers sit in third place in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference, with 34 wins and 28 losses in 71 games played, trailing the Anaheim Ducks and the Vegas Golden Knights, who are currently leading the points table.

The Oilers will be next seen in action against the Utah Mammoth in a tightly contested playoff race, with McDavid expected to look after the offensive lineup of the team.
