In advance of the closure of Week 1, the San Francisco 49ers gave a jolt to the
NFL community and managers of fantasy footballs. News broke that Christian McCaffrey wouldn't play against the New York Jets. A calf strain was the cause. The injury was substantial and was big enough to sideline the star running back only 90 minutes before the opening kickoff
However, McCaffrey's absence didn't hold the 49ers back. They clinched a 32-19 victory.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has offered information on McCaffrey's condition. There is a short period for them to gear up for the game since their next matchup is against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Backup running back Jordan Mason could lead.
Shanahan responds humorously to an ESPN report. The Report suggested there's a "real chance" McCaffrey might not play in Week 2. Shanahan said, “It's amazing. That person must be God. We just found out he wasn't playing today. I have no idea how he's going to feel tomorrow, or the next day. I thought he was playing this whole week until today. So I don't know who knows that he's not playing next week."
Of McCaffrey's leg injury, Shanahan also said: "It’s been lingering the last few weeks. But it’s getting better and better and hopefully it’ll be better next week.”
McCaffrey’s availability for Week 2 is unknown. Shanahan's comments hint that the injury is improving but the team will need to monitor McCaffrey’s progress throughout the week.
They need to make a final decision.
Fans and fantasy managers wait eagerly as they want to know if the all-star running back can play against The Vikings.
Will Jordan Mason Step in once again? That's another question on the minds Of many.
